![]() I have a doctor’s certificate to that effect. I was due to fly to the UK in early March but had to cancel due to illness. Hi there, I have a comprehensive overseas travel policy. My Medibank medical insurance will also be reviewed. This was the first trip where we needed insurance. I have insured with Medibank travel insurance before. (Some good arguments in the court ruling if you are in a similar position.) l have made a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in the USA agrees. I argued that covid 19 is “Natural” and a “Disaster”. They say it is an additional expense not covered by the policy even though getting home was a critical part of our trip expenses. They would not recognise the return fares as either necessitated by the covid 19 natural disaster or as a cancellation expense. AIG subsequently paid the claim under cancellation expenses. Medibank will only recognise geological and meteorological natural disasters not biological ones. ![]() Both claims were initially rejected because covid 19 is not regarded by them as a natural disaster. Claims were made to both insurance companies. One of us was insured with GoodToGo / AIG travel insurance, the other two were insured with Medibank travel insurance/Zurich. This involved purchasing emergency return airfares. Three of us travelled together and had to return to Australia early after our tour was cancelled as borders were closing due to covid 19. Medibank Travel /Zurich rejects claim, Good to Go /AIG paid identical claim -covid 19 not regarded as a natural disaster I've never checked the global pandemic clauses though! I never thought I would write a glowing review for an insurance company, but here it is. 98% of the time I choose Medibank because of the way their policies are drafted and extra inclusions such as emergency dental coverage. I travel overseas every year (usually), and am one of those strange people that gets three quotes from different companies, reads the fine print, and sometimes every uses a spreadsheet to compare policies. Medibank paid for all my lost fees and deposits (over $2,000), and I couldn't be more grateful. Read more s stressful, but Medibank staff were very helpful through my calls and emails, even as they must have been working extra to help so many travellers that were affected by COVID-related travel issues. I had to deal with five international airlines and two tour companies, and it took quite a lot of time, but it was easy to submit my evidence to Medibank and they were patient and supportive as I tracked down all the information that I needed over a few months. Luckily, I had taken out Medibank Travel Insurance. In late 2019, I booked a major trip through multiple countries, airlines, and tours for late 2020. I am incredibly grateful for the support that Medibank provided through my travel insurance. This is seriously the worst customer experience and Medibank should be ashamed. 20 days later they’ve now requested I get a written letter from Jetstar stating WHY the flight was cancelled!! Submitted the additional information requested but still haven’t heard from them, 2 weeks later.įor my return flight that Jetstar cancelled I submitted documentation from Jetstar. But luckily I had a picture of the luggage being delivered. ![]() Which of course the airline didn’t provide. Read more Regarding the first claim, I provided proof from the airline that the luggage was delayed, however they requested proof that it was also returned. ![]() They claim to respond to claims in 10 business days, However, it took at least 20 to hear back from them. The second, sunglasses stolen at the hotel The first, luggage didn’t make it to the destination On a recent overseas holidays I had three claims I submitted.
